Hirstein HEADlines: Celebrating Our Students and Faculty
There is nothing quite like the last few days of a school year. It is a time when we reflect back on all of the challenges and successes that happened in the classroom, on stage, on the playing fields and on the courts. It is also a time we honor and recognize those who had extraordinary achievements and who helped our school community become better.
I believe at the heart of every great teacher is the ability to empower students to feel confident and secure in their daily interactions. We all want to feel successful, and it is critically important to celebrate faculty and student accomplishments. Watching someone grow and achieve their goals is the greatest gift as an educator. The look on the faces of our students when their names are called to come to the stage and accept their awards is truly a special moment for all of us to savor.
I recently spoke to our seniors from the class of 2022 at their breakfast on ABC day. I stressed to them how important it is for them to stay in touch with us. They often don’t realize how much it means to our faculty to hear from former students about successes they have had in college and in life. The look on the face of a faculty member who has been visited by a former student looks very similar to the face of a student who has won an award. There is genuine joy and a sense of pride that comes with these interactions.
Enjoy the last few days of school. Enjoy a well-deserved summer break, one that I hope is filled with laughter, love, and fun!
