The Key to Success

STARTING THE COURSE: Casting Off

Grades one through three at Saint Edward's are designed to support your child as they begin their journey to becoming an intellectually curious, independent learner. Our primary education program focuses on the unique needs of this age group. We provide a curriculum that supports teaching methods tailored to each child's learning style. The ultimate goal is to help children recognize and understand their own learning preferences, empowering them to advocate for themselves as lifelong learners.

Any questions we have had have been answered almost immediately. The staff has been very supportive and welcoming. The best part, and most importantly, is feeling confident that our children are on a secure/safe campus while engaged in an enriched curriculum.

  • Academic Learning Lab

The Academic Learning Lab (A.L.L.) is an inclusive space designed to assist with academic challenges and study support/strategies focusing on student strengths. Students may be referred by teachers, parents, or the student themself. After discussion and evaluation, specific strategies are suggested and supported. Support and resources for the student, parent, and teacher are available, including academic coaching and community references.
  • Language Arts

The Language Arts program in grades 1 through 3 focuses on developing core skills in word study, reading, writing, listening, and speaking. The program is tailored to accommodate various learning styles, ensuring that each student can thrive and become proficient and independent readers, writers and thinkers.  Components of the program consist of word study, reading, writing, listening and speaking.
  • Math

The math journey of students in grades 1 - 3 builds on the foundational work of the early years program.  The students utilize the concept of moving from concrete-pictorial-abstract to facilitate the transition from pictorial to symbolic understanding.  The challenging tasks are designed to nurture the students' keen interest in mathematics and beyond.
  • Science

The lower school science program aims to foster a love of science and develop students' understanding of its everyday applications. Based on the Next Generation Science Standards, the curriculum covers physical, life, earth, and space sciences, as well as engineering design (STEAM). It builds on students' natural curiosity through hands-on activities, investigations, experiments, field experiences, and class discussions. Margaret Young, Early Childhood Teacher

One of the best parts of my job is having a front-row seat to watch a child’s transformation in the early childhood years. Here at Saint Edward’s School, we have the amazing opportunity to watch these children progress through the grades and graduate from the Upper School. It is such a rewarding experience knowing that my colleagues and I were a part of the very beginning stages of their learning journey.
