Varsity Girls Tennis Advances to Regionals

The varsity boys and girls tennis teams recently hosted the Class 1A District 8 Tournament at Riverside Park against the 5 other schools in their district: The Benjamin School, John Carroll Catholic High School, Master's Academy of Vero, Melbourne Central Catholic High School, and The Pine School.

The first day of the playoffs on 4/15/25 saw much competitive action on the courts for both teams as the boys remained close to The Benjamin School (10) and Master's Academy (8) with 7 team points, and the girls chased behind Benjamin (10) with 8 team points and were trailed by Master's Academy (7). Advancing to the Day 2 round of the tournament for the Pirates were #1 boys singles Jose Robledo Pretelt, #5 boys singles Nicky Colontrelle, #2 boys doubles Nick Weise/Colontrelle, #4 girls singles Chandler Higdon, #5 girls singles Emmery Clarkson, #1 girls doubles Clarkson/Higdon, and #2 girls doubles Mia Maldonado/Jenessa Kendall.

After a grueling Day 2 on 4/16/25, the boys team secured a solid 3rd place finish in the tournament, coming in behind Master's Academy of Vero Beach and The Benjamin School. The girl team claimed the 1A District 8 runners-up title with 10 team points to The Benjamin School's 21, successfully eclipsing Master's Academy (9). Their 2nd place finish has qualified the girls team to compete in the Regional Semifinals.

Colontrelle secured a victory on the courts for the Pirates as the #5 boys singles District winner and was the only singles winner for both boys or girls that beat a Benjamin athlete in the Finals. For the #1 boys singles, Robledo Pretelt finished the rounds as the District runner-up. For #4 girls singles, Higdon finished as the District runner-up, and Clarkson was the District runner-up for #5 girls singles. In #2 girls doubles, Maldonado/Kendall finished as the runners-up.
