Excellent Showing at Districts for Varsity Track & Field
On 4/18/22, the varsity track and field team competed in the Class 1A District 13 Tournament at The Benjamin School in Palm Beach Gardens. The boys team finished the day in 6th place with 25 points, and the girls team finished 7th with 23 points.
For the boys, Brogan Buck led the day with his incredible performance in the 3200m (11:42.78), allowing him to place 1st in the event. Buck also captured 2nd place in the 1600m with 5:05.33 and 4th place in the 800m with 2:16.77 and has qualified for Regionals in all 3 of his events. Contributing in field events for the Pirates was Patrick MacMullan, who finished 7th in the javelin (28.35m) and 10th in the shot put (9.65 m).
The girls team was led by a strong performance in the 4x800 relay. Teammates Luna Rivera, Jessica Jiang, Elizabeth Campbell, and Anna Marie Zugrave ran a personal best 11:52.82 to finish 3rd in the event and qualify for Regionals. Rivera also qualified for Regionals in the 3200m with her 4th place finish (13:21.95). Zugrave collected 5th place in the 3200m with her 14:18.96 finish. In the 300m hurdles, Jiang finished 5th at 56.50, and Sophie Rosenstein finished 8th with 1:04.02. In the 100m hurdles, Jiang collected 8th place with 21.60 and Rosenstein collected 9th with 25.54. Campbell tallied 9th place in both the 100m (13.93) and the 200m (28.84). Meagan Baker led the Lady Pirates in field events, throwing a personal best in the shot put (7.99m) to finish 7th. Baker also placed 10th in the javelin with 14.59m.
Next meet is the Class 1A Region 4 Tournament on 5/4/22 at Southridge Park in Miami, starting at 10:30 AM.
