AP Spanish Students Explore Miami’s Culture Through Food & Art

AP Spanish students had an amazing time immersing themselves in Miami’s rich Cuban and artistic scenes! They kicked things off with a walking food tour in La Pequeña Havana, where they tasted authentic Cuban dishes like sándwich cubano, empanadas and pastelitos de guayaba. They strolled through the lively streets, sipped on coconut juice, learned about Cuban immigration history and even visited a traditional cigar factory. A memorable moment was stopping by Domino Park, where they watched locals engage in intense games of dominoes, a cherished tradition in the Cuban community.

Next, they headed to Wynwood Walls, home to Miami’s most vibrant street art. Surrounded by colorful murals, students learned about graffiti as a powerful form of social expression—tying it back to their class reading Es Posible Soñar. They even got to channel their inner graffitero by creating their own street art!

Chaperones Profe Mejia and Sra. Rojas were beyond proud of the students for embracing new experiences, stepping out of their comfort zones, and keeping their conversations in español. This hands-on learning adventure not only strengthened their language skills but also deepened their appreciation for diverse cultures. ¡Qué chévere!
