Varsity Boys Basketball Holds Back Odyssey Charter

On 1/7/25, the varsity boys basketball team competed on the road against Odyssey Charter School of Palm Bay. The Pirates stifled the Titans with pressure defense in the first half as Jayzere Cannon and Cody Simmonds led the 1st quarter scoring blitz to build a 41-27 halftime lead. Answering the Titans' comeback in the second half, Kaleb Jones secured a crucial rebound to hit a floater in the lane late in the 4th quarter. Cannon knocked down 2 free throws and hit another final goal to seal the victory for the Pirates 66-61. The team improves to 6-2 on the season.

Cannon and Simmonds led the Pirates in scoring with 21 points each, with Cannon collecting 10 rebounds, 4 assists, and 2 steals and Simmonds recording 8 rebounds, 5 assists, 2 steals, and 2 blocks. Gary Anderson added 9 points for the team along with several key defensive blocks and amassed a total of 10 rebounds, 3 assists, 3 steals, and 9 blocks. Rounding out the scoring for the Pirate team were Wyatt Burdick with 5 points, 1 rebound, and 1 assist; Jones with 4 points, 4 rebounds, 1 assist, and 1 steal; Cole Register with 3 points; Carson Yates with 2 points, 5 rebounds, and 1 assist; and Daniel Clemente with 1 point, 3 rebounds, and 1 assist. Seorim McLendon also tallied 1 rebound for the Pirates.
 
Next game is at home on 1/10/25 versus John Carroll Catholic High School, starting at 7:00 PM in the Gonzalez-Lobo Activities Center.
