Push and Pull: Fourth Grade Goes on a Magnetic Adventure!
Kelly Hudson
In their study of magnetism, fourth-grade students have engaged in various hands-on activities and investigations. Through experiments with different magnets, they discovered that like poles repel while unlike poles attract. Using special viewers, students explored magnetic fields and learned that magnetism can pass through various materials. They also tested the strength of magnets by measuring the distance a paperclip would jump to a magnet. Students applied their understanding by investigating three magnetic toys, analyzing them with paper clips, and making scientific inferences and explanations. This unit will culminate in an exciting project where students will design, build, and test their own magnetic toys. Be sure to watch future newsletters for this fun-filled project!
