Fifth Grade Ecologists

Kelly Hudson
As part of our Ecosystem Restoration unit, students are stepping into the role of ecologists to investigate why certain organisms in a section of the Costa Rican rainforest are struggling to grow and thrive. Today, they examined two different soil samples, making observations and identifying the organic and inorganic components of each. They documented their findings on Seesaw. The challenge was to determine which soil sample represents a healthy ecosystem and which one indicates an unhealthy environment. This insight will help students propose actions for a restoration plan. Later in the year, they’ll apply their new knowledge to explore and restore our own Indian River Lagoon ecosystem.
