The girls varsity team, which consists of about 10-12 lifters, began competing in the Florida High School Athletic Association in 2000.
The team competes in the Florida High School Athletic Association Class 1A, Region 4, District 15 game series. Through the years, many Pirate lifters have qualified for post-season competition at the district, regional, and state level.
Coach Les Rogers is in his 22nd year as head of the girls weightlifting program. He is certified by the USAW as a club level coach and by the NSCA as a Certified Strength Conditioning Specialist. All the athletes that compete in the weightlifting program at Saint Edward's have the opportunity to qualify and compete at local and national level Olympic Weightlifting events sanctioned by the USAW as well during the high school season with the FHSAA.
